Everybody at Bolton Tri Club has been saddened to hear the news of Paul Taylor’s death on Saturday evening following a battle with cancer. The manner in which Paul has dealt with his fate has been truly remarkable. His unfailing courage and humour have been an inspiration to us all . We leave for Sicily on Wednesday to compete in the 10 x Ironman and I want to dedicate my participation in this race to Paul’s memory. I hope to produce a performance befitting his memory .
The race consists of the full Ironman distance each day for 10 days . That is a 2.4 mile swim , 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run . Those of you who followed my 2008 and 2010 Deca attempts will know that sleep deprivation was a major issue . I’m hoping that the Sicily format will suit me better as I will be able to sleep for a full 8 hours each night . Travelling with me will be my son Sam and photographer John Saunders . I could not ask for a better support crew . They were both an inspirational support on the London-Rome run . They also both celebrated birthdays last week , so all being well on October 9th we will have cause for a triple celebration !! Daily updates will appear from Friday on this site and also on the race site at www.decaironman.com
The attached photo with Sam and Harriet was taken on Saturday at Sam’s 25 years of life celebration.
